What's here?
This lays out the training schedule for one of the
Modified training plans
which is an alternative to the well established
AMBIT Basic Five Day TrainingThere is also an
International Train the Trainer (TTT) Model that compresses the dispersed training days from this model into a single week, with web-based supervision to support
AMBIT Local Trainers once they have returned to their local teams.
There are
Local TTT Videos that capture most of the didactic material in this training, and these
Videos are also dispersed around the manual to enrich the text.
The model and rationale:
5 days of training for a new role -
AMBIT Local Trainers (
ALTs). There are some FAQ's specifically for this role:
LOCAL trainers FAQs
In between sessions
AMBIT Local Trainers will be training their local teams -
the intention is to support better implementation by developing
more local ownership of the model and training, and
leaving teams with more local expertise, supported by
Training exercises and other materials in this web-based manual.
We will provide a mix of on-site training days (5 in all - dispersed in blocks in the standard TTT model, but compressed into a single week in the
International Train the Trainer (TTT) Model.
Between these sessions (or after them for international trainees) the trainee
AMBIT Local Trainers will deliver Local Training sessions - see
Local Training sessions (TTT): some core ideas and structure. They will be supported by extensive training materials in this manual in this task, and by each other via an
AMBIT Lead peer-to-peer system.
Basic training stance for the AFC's training for trainers:
2 trainers are present at any time:
- One in the role of "Training"
- The other in the role of "Training to train"
Pre-training phase
- Teams wanting to embark on this must follow the AMBIT Training Application Process
- Managers from the teams MUST attend an Engagement meeting in order to:
- AMBIT Local Trainers are selected. Teams put them forward, AFC team oversees selection based on combination of criteria and local recommendations:
- Have some authority in the team
- Enthusiasm for the model and role
- Have some experience of delivering training
- Moderate confidence in using a web-based app
- Teams receive and complete set reading list before the first training day:
Training Schedule
Training Block One (2 days at AFC)
Between Blocks: Local training sessions (run by ALTs)
Training Block Two (2 days at AFC, 6-8 weeks after Block One).
Between blocks:Local training sessions (run by ALTs)
Training Block 3 (1 day at AFC.)
Post-training local (ALT-led) trainings sessions
- Monthly Remote Supervision
- a. Remote supervision with a named AMBIT trainer to support training, implementation, and practice
- b. Monthly 30 minute telephone supervision sessions using our teleconferencing system
- c. Once a quarter the monthly telephone supervision will be replaced by an hour-long webinar using our web-conferencing system. You can dial in to this on the telephone if you are not able to access the web conferencing platform.
- c. See Using Tele-supervision: a guide for participants
Assessment and accreditation
This is a new development in AMBIT, and is currently being refined:
The AMBIT Post Training Assessment This is a voluntary assessment of a team's competence in AMBIT knowledge and skills, conducted at least a year after training. If completed it leads to accreditation as an AMBIT-accredited team. We see this as the equivalent as a "quality kitemark" for teams working under the influence of AMBIT, with the possibility of moving towards a "membership" model that would carry certain advantages in terms of access to new training opportunities for that team, the opportunity to become satellite AMBIT training centres, and to influence the development of new content in AMBIT. |

Additional issues and considerations
A
International Train the Trainer (TTT) Model exists, similar to this model, but the 5 AFC training days are completed consecutively over the course of a week, with the in-house training occurring afterwards with online supervision to support this.
The
AMBIT Lead peer-to-peer system is intended to support this model; whereby
AMBIT Leads and
AMBIT Local Trainers from different local teams are paired together - so that they can attend each others’ ‘in house’ trainings (preferably on a
quid pro quo basis to reduce costs to local teams), helping to train neighbouring/other teams as well as their own, and in so doing offering a supportive outside perspective.
