AMBIT Training Application Process

1st July 2016

1. Expression of interest

  • Enquiries about AMBIT training from teams/services go to The AMBIT Project Coordinator.
  • We will send out published papers and a link to the AMBIT manual
  • We will also make initial enquiries about the size of the team, whether it is statutory or voluntary sector and annual income of the team if voluntary sector.
  • We will ask the enquirer to fill in an Expression of Interest form

2. Engagement meeting

See more detailed notes at Initial engagement - notes for trainers
  • A manager and senior clinician will have a telephone/web call with an AMBIT Lead Trainer
  • This is largely a Briefing session for senior managers/commissioners
  • Face-to-face meetings are possible at the expense of the applying team
  • Meetings should follow this general process:
    • Introductions and agenda setting
    • Discuss team's existing work context
    • How much do you know about AMBIT already - a short talk on AMBIT
    • Explain the various AMBIT Training routes that are available
    • Explain next steps - PREP day: Overview
    • Coach on how to facilitate and prepare for the PREP day
  • The AMBIT Lead Trainer records the conversation on the Expression of Interest form, including actions, and sends to the AMBIT Project Coordinator
Previously, this initial assessment was achieved via Pre-training team audit, but recognition of the need for even more preparatory work has led to this being superceded by the PREP day.

3. PREP day (Preparation, Reflection, Evaluation and Planning)

This process has replaced the previous Pre-training team audit
  • The intention is that this day should be useful to teams whether or not they go on to engage in AMBIT training, and is charged for separately from any future AMBIT training.
  • It involves teams engaging prior to the day with some evaluation questionnaires beforehand

See the AMBIT PREP day website
  • The PREP day consists of a series of three meetings/exercises, attended variously by senior managers, clinicians, and all staff.

See the PREP day: Overview

4. Application Review and Acceptance

  • On the strength of the PREP day, the application is reviewed, and a decision will be made jointly about whether the team wants to proceed with AMBIT training, and if so, by which route.
  • Reviewing trainers respond to pre-training audit with their mentalized understanding of the team and their challenges (by video, or letter)
  • The team is invited to correct any inaccuracies in this account before training begins
  • Arrangements for training finalised with The AMBIT Project Coordinator
