PREP day: meeting with team managers and senior staff

11th December 2015
1) Introductions
AMBIT trainer/s introduce themselves and broadcast their intentions for the day, as outlined here. Explain that we would wish to position ourselves as allies rather than experts, emphasising our stance of Respect local practice and expertise.
2) Brief introduction to AMBIT
3)Thinking about change
  • Didactic teaching: What makes change difficult for individuals and organisations
  • Exercise: What are the barriers to change in this organisation? Use the Fishbowl discussion or Elevator Pitch, depending on the size of the group, to draw out discussion of local barriers to change
  • Discuss the team manager and senior staff role in creating the conditions for change.
4) How do we learn here?
  • What are the influences on how practitioners actually behave in their day to day work in this organisation/ team? - remembering the other (larger) influences on behaviour, and reminding ourselves about the notion of one's AMBIT.

5) Identifying Journeymen
  • Teaching on Epistemic Trust and Community of Practice, relating this to how people learn in teams
  • Activity to encourage Senior managers and Commissioners to mentalize the experience of front line workers in terms of learning and change. Identify "Journeymen" in the team who are "opinion leaders"; those who could have a role in promoting learning and implementation amongst front line workers.. Opinion leaders tend to be those who often get asked for advice, who speak out a lot, and whose word is respected by most. They do not necessarily sit in a leadership role. The identified opinion leaders can be asked to become AMBIT Leads and take up membership of the Implementation Team.
